Cricket Betting at taka — Bet on every moment of BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup
Welcome to taka's cricket section — from T20 to Test matches, BPL to international series, you can bet across all formats and a wide range of markets. Odds are explained in plain language, and live markets update every over.
Cricket Formats and Popular Tournaments
To understand cricket betting, you first need to know the formats, because the types of markets and how odds are calculated differ for each.
T20 Cricket
Fast-paced 20-over cricket — every ball counts. BPL and IPL are played in this format. Because so much happens in a short time, live markets are most active here.
ODI Cricket
50-over one-day matches — slower than T20 but with more tactical depth. The ICC World Cup and Bangladesh's international series are played in this format.
Test Cricket
The long five-day format — a draw is possible, so there are three outcome markets. Odds shift a lot over time, making it popular with patient bettors.
BPL and IPL
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) — these are the two tournaments that attract the most bets from cricket fans in Bangladesh.
taka also covers matches in the T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy. Any international match featuring the Bangladesh Tigers can easily be found in taka's cricket section.
Popular Betting Markets and Examples
Cricket offers far more than just betting on the match result — there are many types of markets. Below are the seven most used markets at taka, with simple examples.
Match Winner
Which team will win the match — the simplest market. There is no draw in T20, so only two options are available. Example: Team A odds 1.80, Team B odds 2.00 — placing ৳1,000 on Team B returns ৳2,000 if Team B wins.
Toss Winner
Which team will win the toss — the result is entirely down to chance, so the odds for both teams are nearly equal. Since the toss is settled before the match, the result is known right away.
Top Batsman
Which batter from a given team will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match. Bets in this market are placed based on the form of each team's top-order batters.
Total Runs (Over/Under)
Whether the total runs in a match or innings will be more (Over) or less (Under) than a set number. When wickets fall and the pitch is slow, the case for Under gets stronger.
Multi Bet
Multiple selections combined — if all selections are correct, the combined odds deliver a bigger return. Three selections at 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.70 = 3.81, so a ৳100 bet returns ৳381 — but if even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost.
Handicap
The weaker team is given a virtual run advantage to narrow the gap between the two sides. This brings the odds closer together and makes the bet more interesting.
Detailed multi bet example
Three selections — 1.40, 1.60 and 1.70 — give a combined odds of 3.81 (rounded). A ৳100 bet returns ৳381 if all three are correct. If any one loses, the full ৳100 is gone. Multi bets are best played with small amounts as part of the entertainment.
Betting Exchange
On an exchange, bettors place bets against each other — BACK means betting for an outcome, LAY means betting against it. Example: BACK Team A at 2.00 odds with ৳1,000 — if Team A wins, you profit ৳1,000 before commission; if they do not, you lose ৳1,000. LAY Team A — if Team A does not win, you profit ৳1,000; if they do, you pay out ৳1,000.
How to Read Odds — Three Formats
The same odds can be written in three formats — Decimal, Fractional and American. They look different but carry the same information. The two examples below make the difference clear at once.
Example 1 — Team A to win (stake ৳200)
| Format | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 3.00 | Total return = stake × odds |
| Fractional | 2/1 | Profit ৳2 for every ৳1 staked |
| American | +200 | ৳200 profit on a ৳100 stake |
If Team A wins, a ৳200 stake returns ৳600 in total (৳400 profit + ৳200 stake). If Team A loses, the full ৳200 is gone.
Example 2 — Team B to win, the favourite (stake ৳200)
| Format | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 1.50 | Relatively lower profit |
| Fractional | 1/2 | Profit ৳1 for every ৳2 staked |
| American | -200 | Stake ৳200 to profit ৳100 |
Team B is the favourite — if Team B wins, a ৳200 stake returns ৳300 in total (৳100 profit). American minus odds mean that is the amount you must stake to profit ৳100.
The Decimal format is most commonly shown on the taka platform — it is the most familiar to bettors in Bangladesh. For general betting rules, see the Terms and Conditions page.
Things to remember
- Decimal odds are always higher than 1.00 — 1.00 means zero profit
- Higher odds are generally considered to mean lower probability
- Negative American odds indicate the favourite
- The outcome of a bet is never certain — play for entertainment
Live In-Play Betting — Odds Change Every Over
Once a match is underway, live market odds shift with every over and every wicket. This constant movement is what sets in-play betting apart.
What happens when a wicket falls? When a top batter is dismissed, the batting team's odds rise quickly (meaning their chances are considered lower), while the fielding team's odds fall. This change appears in the market immediately.
Powerplay and Death Overs — In T20, the scoring rate is highest during the Powerplay (first 6 overs) and the final 4 overs. The live Total Runs market is most active during these phases.
Rain and Duckworth-Lewis — If weather disrupts the match, live markets may be temporarily suspended. Sometimes the target is revised using the D/L method.
Because decisions in live betting need to be made quickly, it helps to have a good understanding of the match situation beforehand. For information on playing responsibly, read our Responsible Gaming page.
Football and Other Sports Betting — Key Differences
Alongside cricket, taka also offers betting on football and other sports. Since the nature of each sport differs, so do the markets.
⚽ Football Betting
In football, a draw is a normal result, so the Match Winner market usually has three options: Home win, Draw, or Away win. Goal Line (Total Goals), Half-Time Result and Both Teams to Score are the most popular markets. Unlike cricket, there are no over-by-over live updates, but odds shift significantly after a goal.
🏸 Other Sports
Markets for Kabaddi, Badminton or Volleyball are more limited, but the basic structure of betting is the same. In each sport, the movement of points or scores influences the odds. Experience gained from cricket carries over to other sports.
📌 Cricket vs Football — Key Differences
Cricket has many sub-markets based on innings, overs and wickets that football does not. A football match ends in 90 minutes (draw possible), while cricket ranges from four hours for T20 to five days for Test. These differences determine the range and nature of live market opportunities.
🎰 Casino Games and Slots
Alongside sports betting, taka also has a casino section. taka Casino offers live casino and table games, while taka Slots has a wide variety of slot games. These are worth trying during a break from sports.
